Weekend powwow to showcase American Indians

ODESSA, Fla. - "We all come from the same root, but the leaves are all different."

So said the late John "Fire" Lame Deer, a Lakota Sioux author and holy man quoted on the Spirit People Intertribal blog Web site.

Perhaps no truer demonstration of that spirit can be found than the Spirit People Spring Powwow this Friday through Sunday, May 4 - 6.

The powwow will be held at the J.B. Starkey Ranch, in the Odessa area near the intersection of S.R. 54 and Gunn Highway. The public is welcome.

The group has staged fall demonstrations before, but this is the first spring pageant, according to Pamela Waterbird Davison, the public relations agent and spiritual adviser to the group with some 70 members in the area.
